Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 9 September 2026

1. About these Terms

These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of the Brillia Community App and the website at brillia.au (together, the “Service”), operated by Thais da Costa Boeira (ABN 95 528 389 080), trading as Brillia (“Brillia”, “we”, “us”, “our”). By creating an account or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or use the Service. By creating an account, you confirm that you are 18 or older, and that you are a parent, expectant parent, or primary caregiver.

3. Your account

You are responsible for keeping access to your account secure, and for all activity that happens under it. Let us know straight away if you think someone else has accessed your account without permission.

4. What Brillia is — and isn’t

Brillia is a platform that helps parents discover, arrange, and communicate about informal, peer-organised meetups and community support, and surfaces relevant events organised by external parties (see section 8). Brillia:

  • does not organise, supervise, staff, or insure any meetup;
  • does not perform working-with-children checks, background checks, or any other vetting of any user, beyond the identity-verification step described below;
  • is not a childcare provider or booking service, and has no role at the meetups it helps arrange.

Identity verification (a one-time phone number check before your first RSVP) is intended to make casual bad-faith use of the app harder — it is not, and must not be treated as, a safety certification or guarantee about any other user. You are responsible for exercising your own judgement about who you meet, where, and under what circumstances, in the same way you would with any other person you meet through a community, class, or online group.

5. Meetups are organised by parents, not by Brillia

Brillia is a platform: it helps parents find each other and provides the tools to arrange a meetup — discovery, messaging, and RSVPs. Brillia does not organise, run, staff, or supervise any meetup. Every meetup on Brillia is created and run by the parent who posts it, and Brillia facilitates the connection between parents, nothing more.

The parent who creates a meetup is responsible for:

  • choosing the meetup's location;
  • setting its date and time;
  • deciding who is invited or allowed to attend;
  • supervising their own children throughout;
  • making sure the location is appropriate for the meetup and the ages of the children attending;
  • complying with any rules, permits, or laws that apply to the venue (for example, a park's opening hours, a café's booking policy, or a museum's own conditions of entry).

Brillia does not provide childcare, and no one at Brillia supervises, staffs, or is present at any meetup. Every parent attending — whether hosting or joining — remains responsible for the supervision and safety of their own children at all times, for the entire duration of the meetup.

Beyond the identity verification described in section 4, Brillia does not vet attendees, venues, or arrangements. Parents interact with each other, and decide whether and how to meet, entirely at their own discretion — this describes how the platform actually works, and is not intended to exclude any right, guarantee, or protection you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that cannot lawfully be excluded, restricted, or modified by agreement.

6. Content you post

You keep ownership of anything you post (meetup listings, chat messages, support posts and replies), but by posting it you give Brillia a licence to display, store, and distribute it as needed to operate the Service — for example, showing your meetup listing to other parents, or your first name in a chat to someone who has RSVP'd.

You agree not to post anything that is:

  • unlawful, harassing, abusive, or discriminatory;
  • false or misleading;
  • an invasion of another person's privacy, including sharing someone else's exact address, phone number, or other private details without their consent;
  • advertising or soliciting business outside of the Businesses section, or spamming other users.

Brillia may remove content, restrict a feature, or suspend or terminate an account that breaches these Terms, at our discretion.

7. Support board

The Support board is intended for parents to ask for or offer genuine help within the community. Brillia does not vet, guarantee, or take responsibility for any arrangement made between users through the Support board — for example, an offer of childcare or hand-me-down items — the same “use your own judgement” principle in section 4 applies here.

8. Public Events (externally hosted)

Some listings shown in Meetups are organised entirely by an external party (e.g. a council, library, or museum) and are shown to you as a convenience — Brillia does not organise these, and a “Public Event” label always makes this clear. Booking, attending, and any queries about a Public Event are between you and the organisation running it; Brillia is not a party to that arrangement.

9. Concerns, reporting, and moderation

If you have a concern about a user, meetup, or piece of content, contact us at hello@brillia.au and we will look into it. We are also working on in-app tools to report content and block another user directly — until those are available, please reach out to us directly, including for anything that feels unsafe or urgent.

To help keep the community safe, Brillia can:

  • remove or suspend a user's account;
  • cancel or remove a meetup;
  • remove content, such as a message, post, or reply;
  • restrict features on an account;
  • look into a concern raised with us;
  • cooperate with law enforcement or other authorities where we are legally required to.

We do not guarantee a particular outcome or timeframe for any concern raised with us.

10. Third-party services

If you choose to use a feature that hands off to a third-party service — for example, creating a personalised story via Stars is Stories after a meetup concludes — your use of that service is governed by its own terms, and Brillia is not responsible for that service.

11. Termination

You can stop using the Service and ask us to delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if we reasonably believe you have breached these Terms or the law, or to protect the safety of the community.

12. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The Service is provided on an “as is” basis. While we work hard to keep Brillia running well, we do not guarantee it will always be available, error-free, or uninterrupted.

Nothing in these Terms is intended to exclude, restrict, or modify any guarantee, right, or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law, or any other law that cannot lawfully be excluded.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will let you know before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

14. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia, and you submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Queensland.
